Burns’ Family Supermarkets Raise 10K for Red Cross

Nine local Fresh Grocer and ShopRite supermarkets, owned and operated by the Burns family, raised $10,000 for the American Red Cross during their seventh annual fundraiser held in March in honor of National Red Cross Month.  The month-long fundraiser was supported by both corporate and customer donations.  All proceeds will help the Red Cross deliver on its mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies.

Governor Tom Wolf announced regional supermarket magnate and philanthropist Patrick Burns will chair the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial.

“As the birthplace of American freedom, Pennsylvania will play a critical role in the celebration of this major milestone,” said Gov. Wolf. “With a strong leader like Pat heading the commission, Pennsylvanians can expect their heritage to be at the forefront of the recognition of America’s 250th birthday.”

Fresh Grocer and Temple Basketball Team Up to Fight Hunger

The Fresh Grocer of Progress Plaza and Temple Men’s Basketball partnered up in the fight against hunger, delivering 278 cases of food to Philabundance.  The Fresh Grocer donated one case of food for every 3-pointer made by the basketball team during the ’16-’17 season.

The new 57,000-square-foot store employs over 200 people and offers a wide variety of fresh prepared foods, beer and wine, made to order hoagies and sandwiches, fresh produce, full service deli, bakery, meat and seafood departments, and more. Local elected officials joined in the celebration. Fresh Grocer marked the event with a $10,000 check to Philabundance to reinforce their commitment to the community and to support local hunger relief efforts.
